lipid: Another word for "fat." A lipid is a substance such as a fat, oil or wax that dissolves in alcohol but not in water.
 
lipoprotein: A complex of lipid and protein, the way lipids travel in the blood.
 
obesity: The state of being well above one's normal weight. A person is considered to be obese if they are more than 20 percent over their ideal weight.
 
onset: In medicine, the first appearance of the signs or symptoms of an illness.
